How to do waterproofing with Fjallraven Greenland Wax?
Materials needed:
- Greenland Wax - a special wax produced by Fjallraven.
- Clean, dry G-1000 clothing.
- Hair dryer, iron or oven - to heat wax.
Clothing preparation:
- Make sure the garment is clean and dry before starting waterproofing. Dirt and moisture can affect the effectiveness of waterproofing.
Wax application:
- Rub the wax cube on the fabric, covering it evenly with a thin layer of wax. You can apply more wax to areas more exposed to moisture, such as shoulders, hood, and pockets.
Warming up the wax:
- Hair dryer: Hold the dryer close to the waxed fabric and heat until the wax melts and penetrates the fabric. Do it in circular motions to evenly distribute the heat.
- Iron: Set the iron to a low temperature (no steam). Cover the garment with a thin cloth (such as a cotton cloth) and iron until the wax dissolves.
- Oven: Set the oven to a low temperature (about 50°C). Place the garment on a clean surface in the oven for a few minutes until the wax melts. Be careful not to overheat the fabric.
Cooling and checking:
- Allow the garment to cool and check that the wax has penetrated the fabric evenly. If there are areas that seem insufficiently impregnated, repeat the process.
Additional layers:
- If you want to increase water resistance, you can apply additional layers of wax. Repeat the wax application and heating process.
Attention:
- Do not use too high a temperature to avoid damaging the material.
- Greenland Wax waterproofing is slightly less durable than other waterproofing methods, so you may need to wax again after a while, especially after washing clothes.
- Regular impregnation with Greenland Wax will help keep Fjallraven clothing in good condition and increase its functionality in a variety of weather conditions.
