Stabilotherm - Jägarstekpanna Frying Pan - Hunter Frying Pan 21cm - S2 (Folding handle)

Hunter Frying Pan (Jägarstekpanna) is a medium sized travel pan (21cm) made in Sweden from Swedish carbon steel. These pans are truly synonymous with trapper-style cooking in natural surroundings.

This is an excellent option for 1-2 people, who want to prepare a special meal over a campfire. The frying pan will be perfect for camping conditions, as well as for preparing a meal in the garden. Pan suitable for preparing all kinds of dishes, from frying and grilling meat, vegetables to making delicious pancakes for dessert.

Stabilotherm pans are manufactured in Sweden from Swedish carbon steel, thanks to which they are durable and properly used will serve for many years. This material is ideal for use around campfires, as it is resistant to high temperatures. The more often you use the pan, the better its frying properties will be.

The size of the pan makes it ideal for 1-2 people.

The pan is equipped with folding metal handle finished with a hole, which we can naturally extend by inserting a stick into it. Thanks to this solution, it takes up less space during transportation.

History

The inspiration for the Jägar pan goes back several decades and comes from the old Nordic dish "kolbulle" (a type of baked bread/ pancake with pork meat often served with lingonberries). It was first cooked in a pan by, charcoal burners, lumberjacks and other manual laborers who worked for long periods of time without access to fresh ingredients. Hunter/Jägar frying pans began to be manufactured in Smaland (a traditional province of Sweden) in the 1980s and are still a valued tool among hunters, fishermen and those with a passion for the outdoors and bushcraft.

Preparation for use and maintenance of carbon steel pans

For best results when cooking, the pan should be well coated with oil or fat (seasoning).

You can, of course, also use the pan as is at the time of purchase. Just wash it before first use. At first, the pan will have an uneven color, but over time, after several times of lighting the fire, the entire pan will blacken. When using a frying pan, fat is always needed when frying on it. This is a slow method for a seasoned pan.

However, we recommend that you make the appropriate seasoning (burnout), which will provide a "non-stick coating" and a protective layer against rust formation. When cooking, you will still need to use fat in the pan, but much less.

Campfire burnouts

1. Start by washing the pan thoroughly with hot water and a little detergent.

2. Then drain the pan thoroughly.

3. Now it's time to burn the new pan in order to obtained natural non-stick coating. Pgrease the pan with a thin layer of cooking oil over the entire surface. If the pan has a wooden handle (S3-S4), unscrew it before the actual firing so that it does not come in contact with the fire.

4. Put the pan straight into the fire. Leave it like this until the oil starts to smoke and change color.

5. Repeat the procedure 3-5 times.

6. If the pan begins to dry out, apply another thin layer of oil.

7. A properly fired pan will be brownish-black, often lighter on the edges. It only gets darker and more beautiful over time.

You can also do the firing at home in the oven (200 degrees for about 15-20 minutes per layer). Remember however, about supervising this process and do not forget about proper ventilation, because there will be a lot of smoke.
