Traditional Finnish knife scabbards
Traditional Finnish leather scabbards for puukko knives are often called "viilupussi" or "kotipussi," meaning "knife scabbard" or "household knife scabbard." They are characteristic of Finnish knife craftsmanship and have a long history dating back to Viking times.
Leather scabbards for puukko knives are usually handmade from natural cowhide, using traditional sewing and leather dyeing techniques. The leather is usually thick and strong, which provides good protection for the knife. Often the vaginas are decorated with traditional Finnish designs or symbols, such as runes or motifs from nature.
Leather scabbards for puukko knives are designed to ensure safety and comfort while carrying the knife. They are usually equipped with a loop or buckle that allows you to attach the scabbard to a belt or other piece of clothing. Inside the scabbard there is usually a special insert made of hard wood or leather, which holds the knife in place and prevents it from moving around in the scabbard.
In traditional Finnish culture, puukko knives with leather scabbards are considered a national treasure and are prized for their functionality and beauty. Thanks to their durability and quality, puukko leather knife scabbards have become a symbol of Finnish craftsmanship and are still widely used by knife lovers around the world.
