Helle - LTD JS knife

More than 90 years ago, brothers Sigmund and Steinar Helle built their own forge and began making knives on the family farm in Holmedal. A lot has changed since then, but Helle Sigmund and Steinar remain focused on creating sturdy tools that both feel and look good. 90 years and two generations later, Helle's design philosophy is still based on the same established principle. Today, it is the current production manager Jan Steffen (Sigmund's grandson) and the current general manager Svein-Erik (Steinar's grandson) who are responsible for implementing these principles.

In designing the limited edition knife, Jan Steffen and Svein-Erik wanted to honor their grandparents by designing a knife that preserved the essence of their grandparents' design philosophy. They agreed that the starting point should be Helle's pride in the first three decades of production: the Fjellkniven series. At the time, it was Helle's "high-end" option, combining many elements of traditional Norwegian knife culture with high-end material choices, including a highly polished blade with a false blade/back bend. Jan Steffen and Svein-Erik also agreed that the old vaginal design developed by their grandparents in the 1930s and reintroduced with Sigmund should be used again.

But here the deal is over. Jan Steffen wanted to honor his grandfather's forging skills and include a red element in the design. On the other hand, Svein-Erik wanted to incorporate Helle's classic greenery and classic reindeer antlers - his grandfather's favorite - into the design. Since the Helle family valued diversity of opinion from the very beginning, they agreed to do one design each.

HELLE LTD JS

Jan Steffen's design includes a highly polished h3LS stainless steel laminate blade with a length of 110 mm with a small false edge/bend on the spine. The 107 mm long handle has stacked red leather inlays and curly birch in combination. Scabbard, made with the original Helle print in the style of the 1930s., is black with red stitching to honor the blacksmith shop that Jan Steffen's grandfather ran.

Maintenance

Helle knives are designed to stay sharp as a lifelong companion. But it is still important to take care of your knife and its scabbard.
Handle. Dry the handle with a soft cloth if it is wet and wax it occasionally.

Vagina. The leather should be impregnated from time to time with a colorless impregnating agent (grease or wax) to maintain flexibility. Carefully dry the cover at room temperature, if it gets wet.
Blade. Wipe the blade with a soft cloth if it is wet and occasionally lubricate it with grease.

Sharpening

Use a diamond tool or wet stone for sharpening. Place the bevel of the knife flat on the sharpening tool and work the entire blade. Work on one side until you feel a slight burr on the other side. Change the page and repeat the procedure until you feel the burr on the first page. You have now established an advantage.

Remove burrs by gently sliding the blade across the sharpening surface on both sides, as when cutting very thin slices. Hold the bevel flat against the sharpener and move from side to side until the burr disappears.

If the blade is very dull or damaged, use a fine grindstone and plenty of water and sharpen until you get a raw edge. Use plenty of coolant and never sharpen on dry stone. A heat-ground edge loses its heat treatment and destroys the blade.
