The active ingredient in Esbit Solid Fuel Tablets 20 x 4g is Hexamethylenetetramine, a heterocyclic chemical compound derived from the reaction of formaldehyde ("dehydrated formalin") and ammonia. It is in the form of white crystals and, when compressed into larger cubes, serves as a "fuel cartridge" for specially designed stoves.
