Muurikka is synonymous in Scandinavia with preparing food over a fire, outdoors. Extremely popular pans have been produced in Finland since the 1970s and are commonly used for preparing meals both in camping conditions and in family gatherings such as in the garden.

To prevent rusting, the pan should be cleaned after use, dried, rubbed with a thin layer of vegetable oil and stored in dry conditions.
Preparation and use
- Clean the pan with hot water, light detergent or boil water in the pan.
- After cleaning and drying, spread evenly over the entire surface a thin layer of vegetable oil, such as canola oil. Remove excess oil with a paper towel.
- The rainbow colors that will appear on the steel when using the pan are caused by the sudden change in temperature. The phenomenon is normal and completely harmless.
Cleaning
- Clean best and easiest immediately after use, while the pan is still warm.
- Remove excess fat remaining after cooking from the pan.
- Pour water into the pan and bring to a boil. Remove residue with spatula and paper towel.
- Dry.
Storage
- Pans are made of utility steel and are not corrosion resistant, so after washing, the pan should be dried and protected by rubbing a thin layer of oil on the surface.
- Store in a dry place.
- If patina/rust appears after long-term storage of an improperly protected pan, remove the rust with steel wool or a cleaner, wash the pan, dry and protect with oil. Repeat the patination before the next use.
