The Benchmade 590SBK-1 Boost is an all-purpose edc knife featuring an S30V steel combo blade, assisted blade-opening mechanism, reliable axis-lock and reinforced Versaflex plastic liners.
Head and steel
The knife has a usable drop-point blade with a length of 94 mm, made of American stainless steel CPM-S30V.
S30V powder steel by Crucible Industries it hardens to an optimal hardness of 58-60 HRC, therefore, it maintains high sharpness for a long time, has high mechanical strength, and is also resistant to corrosion.
Due to its high vanadium carbide content, the steel is distinguished by its high impact strength and wear resistance, as well as excellent cutting properties. The blade is coated with a layer of black Teflon, which protects the blade from minor scratches.
When choosing a hard-steel knife, get a diamond sharpener, as sharpening with a standard ceramic whetstone can be very labor-intensive and inefficient.
The functionality of the knife is significantly increased by the serrated section of the blade, useful when cutting hard and fibrous materials such as belts, ropes and tapes.
Knife operation and mechanism
The blade can be conveniently and quickly unfolded with one hand using the double-sided pin, providing convenience for right and left-handed people.
The opening process makes it easier and faster support mechanism. A gentle lift of the double-sided peg activates an internal spring that dynamically unfolds the blade. Such functionality causes that the knife is ready to work in a fraction of a second.
Benchmade's flagship mechanism is responsible for safe operation, double-sided Axis-lock, valued for its tremendous mechanical strength, resistance to dirt, and ease of use for right- and left-handed users.
In the knife an additional locking device was used, which prevents accidental folding and unfolding of the blade during handling. The slide of the second safety mechanism is located on the back of the handle.
Handle
The knife has contoured Grivory plastic facings, which, to improve traction covered with thermoplastic elastomer Versaflex. Such a solution provides a stable grip, high control and comfort for daily use.
The design of the knife is reinforced by solid steel inserts (liners).
Carrying the knife discreetly in your pocket makes it easy to high-set clip, which, if necessary, can be fixed on both sides of the cladding.
The manufacturer also did not forget to use hole for paracord cord, from which decorative tails and handles are commonly made to make it easier to reach the knife.
