Paracord - what it is?

Paracord is one type of cord, often referred to as parachute cord. Its name is a combination of the first letters of the words parachute and cord, meaning just parachute cord. During World War II, the U.S. Army used it for this purpose - but the accessory has much broader applications. Paracord lines vary in diameter and load capacity. The most popular, however, is the 550 cord, which guarantees 250 kilograms of lifting capacity.

Paracord rope - application

Paracord cord can be used in dozens of different ways - an extremely useful accessory. One of its uses is as a tourniquet or makeshift sling. When hiking, you can also use the rope to tie things to your body or bushcraft backpack, thus distributing the weight of the luggage. Paracord will also help you tie a tarp or blanket to a tree or the ground to create a makeshift shelter in the woods. With its help, you will also easily create and fix snares. In addition, the rope can be used to temporarily repair your clothes or backpack if they are damaged. However, it is worth remembering not to use it in climbing sports - despite its high load capacity, it may not do its job and be sufficient for belaying.

What is paracord rope made of?

Each paracord rope is made from a combination of sturdy, high-quality synthetic fibers - usually stretch nylon. It owes its strength to as many as seven weaves, which form a dense, extremely durable whole. The cable is thus capable of lifting up to several hundred kilograms. Survivalists usually reach for the 550 cord model. If necessary, you can separate the strands, thus gaining seven separate strings. They will then prove themselves m.in. as a makeshift string, thread or fishing line substitute - the only limit is your imagination!
