True to its name, Emphasis takes all the proven features and advantages of the best-selling Efficient and "emphasizes" them, keeping the "cockpit" of the design - key relationships of axle dimensions, lock, and Round Hole trademark - consistent with the original. Its fully flat ground 8Cr13MoV stainless steel blade is available with a choice of PlainEdge or partially serrated CombinationEdge and is backed by skeletonized stainless steel inserts, stainless steel rear spacer, heavy-duty LinerLock mechanism and textured G10 scales. For discreet carrying, it also features a black wire-covered deep pocket clip that can be reversed for left- or right-handed users.
Released in 2016, the Spyderco Efficient was designed from the ground up as a member of Spyderco's popular Value Folder family - a series of full-service folding knives that are priced to fit virtually any budget. Like other members of the family, the Efficient design proudly incorporated all the critical features and qualities that define Spyderco knives, but in a more accessible format. It was also sized for easy portability, complied with the blade length restrictions of most knife regulations, and conformed to the ergonomic "sweet spot" preferred by most Spyderco users.
Although Efficient has quickly gained a loyal fan base among performance-oriented Spyderco enthusiasts, as we all know, there is no such thing as "one size fits all.". In addition to the obvious physical differences in hand size, the choice of individual knives also depends on subjective personal preferences, legal considerations, weight, and carrying convenience. Not surprisingly, while good at Efficiency was (and still is), it was not ideal for some users. Some wanted the same design, but in a slightly smaller package; others wanted an upscale look that would better suit large hands and big cutting jobs. To answer these calls, Spyderco decided to literally go both ways, creating the Insistent and Emphasis, which share the same proven design style and performance characteristics as the Efficient.
