The Jääkäri L is an original, incredibly durable backpack made by Savotta, a Finnish company that specializes in manufacturing m.in for the Finnish army.

The Jääkäri L (aka Rajajääkäri) is an improved model of the Border Guard backpack, which was originally designed for the Finnish Border Guard Service. The original Border Patrol is a 1989 classic and is still actively used by border guards and countless hunters and hikers. Over the years Savotta has collected user feedback, experiences, with the help of this valuable information it has transformed the Border Patrol into a a modern and highly durable anatomical backpack: the Jääkäri L!

The Jääkäri L is not your average anatomical backpack, but a tool designed for the demanding user that won't let you down when the going gets tough. The robustness of the original Border Patrol backpack was met with such high praise that it was decided not to change the load-bearing structure.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION

Rolled top at the top, a zipper at the bottom and an internal compartment allow you to use the main compartment of the backpack as you wish. After opening the inner partition the main compartment turns into one huge, abyssal space, enabling the packing of very large and long items. Bottom zipper for quick access to any gear, which you need most during the day, and the retractable top guarantees protection from heavy weather conditions providing protection for your equipment.

Lower compartment the zippered pocket has internal elastic compression straps and four small mesh pockets to organize equipment. Zippered pocket in the lid provides secure storage for wallet, keys, travel documents and phone.

Rolling top closure, floating lid and side compression straps provide a wide range of adjustability depending on the volume of the package. Fasten it tightly or loosen it depending on the load being carried. Compression straps allow you to attach additional gear to the outside of the backpack if needed. External side pockets on the bottom can be used to hold tools, tripods, etc. Pinned to the sides of the backpack.

Hydration chamber is attached to the inner rear wall. Pipe passages centrally located to allow hydration tank tubing to be routed on the left or right side.

MILITARY GRADE MATERIALS

Most of the materials we use in our commercial production are the same materials that we use in equipment for the Finnish Armed Forces and other defense and security customers. Our most commonly used fabric in cargo handling equipment is extremely abrasion resistant Cordura 1000D, according to FDF specifications, with polyurethane coating on the inside. The webbing and edge tapes we use are, again according to FDF specifications, strong polyester tapes in various widths and thicknesses for different applications.

Our green and M05 camouflage materials and accessories comply by default with the FDF's strict specifications for NIR reflectivity levels, which should be, since the same materials are used in official military equipment.

MODULARITY

PALS straps on the waist belt, sides, lid and bottom of the backpack allow you to strap on additional loaders and gear. This system offers numerous options to configure the package to fit your specific needs. However, not only for cargo holds, PALS webbing can also be used to attach tool belts, shock cord, carabiners, etc.

Hip belt can be removed from the frame and used as a stand-alone equipment belt. With the appropriate pouches attached, it can be used instead of or in conjunction with a small backpack.

HEIGHT-ADJUSTABLE CARRYING SYSTEM

Internal aluminum tubular frame prevents the backpack from sagging and transfers the weight of the pack to the hips, even when loaded with heavy and bulky cargo.

Both the suspenders and waist belt are generously padded with thermo-molded foam with closed cells. Shoulder straps are S-shaped and include a removable chest strap.

Back length adjustment is done by moving the hip belt up or down across the backpack using PALS webbing. Forward tension adjustment is easy to tighten even under load. Side release buckle for quick and easy opening when needed.

IN THE SERVICE OF THE BORDER GUARDS

In the late 1980s, Savotta designed a new patrol backpack for the Finnish Border Guard, named simply "Rajapartio" - Border Guard. It was Savotta's first backpack to use an internal aluminum tubular frame, a very simple design that proved to be very good.

The Border Guard's backpack is, at the time of writing in 2019., still in use by the Finnish border guards, showing that specially designed designs do not expire. However, material and manufacturing technologies are evolving, as are the needs of end users. Jääkäri L is, in our opinion, a truly worthy successor to its ancestor.
