CPM MagnaCut - the next generation steel in the Benchmade Auto Osborne folding knife
The folder has an 86 mm long head, made of cPM MagnaCut super steel manufactured using powder technology. The main difference between CPM MagnaCut steel and other stainless steels is the amount of chromium. The elimination of chromium carbides from the steel's composition has resulted in a fine microstructure, making CPM MagnaCut much easier to sharpen compared to steels with similar wear resistance.
CPM MagnaCut combines the strength of CPM-4V, the corrosion resistance of CPM-20CV, the retention of CPM-CruWear/ CPM-4V, and an impressive hardness of as much as 64 HRC, so that it is now regarded as one of the best steels in the world used in factory-made knives.
Utility head in Benchmade folder
Wide blade with tactical Reverse Tanto profile has a matte satin finish (polishing) that harmonizes perfectly with the titanium facings.
Thanks to the use of a sturdy hilt, a flat grind and a cutting edge with a gently rounded line, the knife penetrates easily and has excellent cutting properties.
The thickness of the blade at its widest point is 3 mm, which is a compromise between durability and functionality of the knife in everyday work. Blade finished by DLC Battlewsh, which gives a distinctive appearance and nullifies the formation of minor scratches during use.
Instant unfolding
The main advantage of the automatic knife, is the fast unfolding system and instant readiness for work. Unlike models with an assisted head, in an automatic knife, unfolding the blade only requires pressing a button, which is responsible for releasing the lock and activating the internal spring.
Folding the knife requires pushing the button again and manually retracting the blade. Such functionality makes "automats" are very popular among soldiers, uniformed services personnel and edc enthusiasts.
The release button is embedded in a milled cutout, so it does not protrude above the handle.
The knife uses an additional locking device to prevent accidental pressing of the activation button and folding of the blade. The slide of the second safety mechanism is located on the back of the handle.
When using an automatic knife, it is recommended to exercise extreme caution and prudence.
Modern materials
The knife has facings made of anodized aircraft aluminum 6061-T6 in burnt copper color, which were attached to steel liners, responsible for the rigidity and strength of the structure.
One of the main advantages of aluminum, in addition to its strength and ability to be machined with precision, is its light weight, which is inevitably linked to the comfort of carrying and using the knife.
The profiled handle is wider at the base, which makes the grip of the knife comfortable and the hand will not slip on the blade while working.
Interleaved clip
Discreetly carrying the knife in your pocket allows you to standard embedded clip with the possibility of mounting on both sides of the handle.
